January 2-5

Happy New Year!

English Language Arts: The spelling words this week are focused on r-controlled vowels /ar/ and /or/ (ex: dart, cord etc.). You can find your child’s words on my website, under the correct color.

We will have a weekly vocabulary quiz on Friday, and students can practice the words online. We are going to be talking about Main Idea and Key Details in texts, and looking at the verb tenses past and present.

Math: We are reviewing how to multiply 2 digits by 2 digits (ex: 54 x 37) using the standard method. There is a weekly homework review sheet this week.

There will be no quick quiz this week as we transition back into classroom routines.

Religion: Students will have a Liturgical Seasons quiz tomorrow. They need to know the 7 seasons in order, and what colors go with each season. They also need to know the basic premise of what we are celebrating during that time (ex: Easter is celebrating Jesus’s Ressurrection.)  The seasons are below with their colors in case they forgot our rap.

Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, Triduum, Easter, Ordinary Time

History: We are reviewing what we’ve learned in Unit 2 and will be starting our first drafts of our legends. Students will receive a study guide for our Unit 2 Test on Thursday, however the test will not be until Jan. 19. We will review in class closer to the test, but this allows them to begin reviewing with plenty of time.

Science: Students are working in their zoology unit.

I completely forgot to give out my thank you cards today, so you’ll get those tomorrow. However, I want to say thank you to all of you for the very generous and thoughtful Christmas gifts. I am so blessed to be able to spend everyday with such a wonderful group of kids, and I’m so thankful for all the support, love, and positivity you all have shown me. This is my teaching golden year (4th year teaching 4th grade) and it really has been golden. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Have wonderful first week of 2018!
